STAR Tech®
Professional Advanced Training
Workshops
About STAR Tech®
Soft Tissue Active Recovery Technique - STAR Tech® -
is a treatment modality I have been developing and modifying since the year
2000. The core material for STAR Tech® comes from the Active Isolated
Stretching of Aaron Mattes which I discovered in 1994 when I took a workshop
with Jim and Phil Wharton. A few years later, a Soft Tissue Release workshop
with Stuart Tawes started my journey to what is now what I call STAR Tech®.
Recent study with Gil Hedley and his vast knowledge of fascia prompted me to
realize I have been doing very effective fascia work all these years without
realizing it.
STAR Tech® is fast and efficient body work
at it's best. What used to take me 20 minutes to accomplish using traditional
massage techniques I learned in Massage School, I now often accomplish in 2 to 4
minutes using STAR Tech® It is the addressing of the fascia as
well as addressing the muscles and other soft tissue that makes STAR Tech®
so effective.
STAR Tech® is an ideal modality for
the practitioner to use because it allows the practitioner to use numerous different
muscles other than the ones that are normally used when doing traditional Swedish Massage or Deep Tissue
work in a treatment. Lower Body STAR Tech® work in particular
frequently requires the use of the muscles
of the entire practitioner's body, thereby giving the fingers, hands, arms and shoulders a
much needed break.
To learn more about the many applications of STAR
Tech® go to Treatments
The Workshops
STAR Tech® Professional Advanced Training
Workshops
will teach
Health Care and Sports Professionals how to use Soft Tissue Active Recovery Technique
with a client or with a patient. Advanced Massage Training Workshops are offered to Massage
Therapists, Body Workers and other Healing Professionals including Doctors,
Chiropractors, Physical Therapists, etc. STAR Tech®
Workshops can also provide valuable training that can be used by Athletes, Coaches
and Fitness Trainers as well.
In the workshops, learning Soft Tissue Active Recovery Technique
will take place in layers.
1. We will examine the muscle or muscle group that is being targeted for
treatment. We will do a brief anatomy review and an overview of the
causes for the soft tissue issues involving that muscle.
2. You will learn
self-stretches to address that muscle or muscle group. These are stretches you will be able to
continue to do yourself, and stretches that you will be able to give as homework
to your clients or patients to continue the healing you have begun and to use as
maintenance. You will use adaptations and variations of these self-stretches
when doing a STAR Tech® treatment.
3. When the self-stretching technique for that muscle is learned and
accomplished, we will move on to learning and practicing assisted stretching
techniques for that muscle with a partner done as both passive assisted
stretching and active assisted stretching.
4. Finally, we will add the STAR Tech® Treatment to the mix.
With this logical layered learning approach, you will leave
the workshop with the knowledge to take your client out of pain as well as have
healing and maintenance stretches to give your patient or client as homework that will support your work and
quickly move healing forward.
If you are now using Active Isolated Stretching in your
practice, you are already using a very powerful technique. With STAR
Tech®, you will
learn how to make your AIS work ten times more powerful and accomplish better
results in a fraction of the time you normally would spend to get results. The soft
tissue recovery
that is accomplished with STAR
Tech® Healing is quicker
and is also longer-lasting.
Some Health Professionals may be able to use STAR Tech® Treatment Workshops
towards their Continuing
Education Requirements. Please check with the Governing Body of your
organization to insure that it will accept credits for STAR Tech® workshops if that is your goal.
For anyone taking an Advanced Professional Training Workshop, a working
knowledge of muscles is a pre-requisite.

John Hamm, LMT practices a STAR
Tech Active Recovery Technique on a fellow LMT during the STAR Tech
Treatments for Lower Body Training workshop, February 25, 2007. |
Who Will Benefit From This Training:
Massage Therapists, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists,
Chiropractors, Body Workers, Fitness Trainers, Exercise Instructors, Coaches, Serious Athletes,
Dancers, Bodybuilders and anyone else who is interested in learning how
to do the most effective stretching that exists.
About the Workshop: This workshop is for individuals who are
seriously interested in gaining a thorough knowledge of Active Stretching. If you are already
familiar with AS, this workshop will expand your
knowledge and its use. If you are not already using it, you will find
that Active Stretching can be a powerful addition to
your current physical activities, or your treatment or coaching tool box. For
Therapists and Body Workers, adding to the way you perform your job can
change the way you use your body to work, and lessen your chance of suffering
from overuse syndrome. Adding Active Stretching to your arsenal of
treatments or coaching has the potential of keeping you and the people
you work with, pain and injury-free. And it can prolong your own career.
About Active Stretching:
The Active Stretching being taught in this workshop is based on the
Active Isolated Stretching of Aaron Mattes. Active Stretching can not be learned
initially from a book. The subtleties of the experience are lost in
print. Active Stretching must be experienced. As with learning to ride a
bicycle, the only way to learn how to do it is to actually do it,
ideally with someone who can lead you intelligently and watchfully
through the various elements of the experience.
Active Stretching is the foundation of the STAR Tech Healing
that Barry offers in his massage practice and also teaches to other
practitioners. STAR Tech is ten times more powerful than Active
Stretching used alone. STAR Tech is ten times faster in terms of the
healing changes it helps to achieve in soft tissue.

Please make check payable to Barry Bailey.
Learn how Active Stretching works naturally, and why Active Stretching works.
Learn the physiology and body mechanics responsible for Active Stretching, plus how and why the body
responds so quickly and thoroughly to it. Learn Active Stretches to use for
both muscle maintenance and muscle injury recovery.
In this workshop, sufficient time will be given to each
stretch in order to give the student a thorough understanding of what is being
done, and why. This workshop will include an anatomy review and an explanation
of the muscle(s) being targeted (relaxed and contracted) in each stretch.
(There is no time to do
this properly in the regular Active Stretching Class.) Demonstrations of
each stretch will include detailed instructions for doing the stretch
properly, as well as tips for doing the stretch better and more
effectively in order to get the most benefit.
The workshop will include stretches that are not in the
Active Stretching class routine because of time limitations, and
are also not in the Active Stretching Class Handbook or on the
class CD.
For students who are familiar with the Active Stretching class routine,
this workshop will expand your knowledge and understanding of what
is being done and why. For students new to Active Stretching, this
workshop will methodically, and without rushing, introduce you to
stretches that address all of the major muscles and muscle groups that
are involved in virtually all sports, fitness routines and physical
activities.
This is stretching that you can use yourself, as well as
stretching that you can teach your patients, clients, family, students
and
friends. For Professionals, these stretches can be given as homework to
help clients or patients continue and enhance any work you have done with them.
The
goal of this workshop will be for you to leave knowing not only how to
do Active Stretches that address the muscles of the entire body, but
also to know why you are doing them, and how Active Stretching works. It
is intended that you will know and understand Active
Stretching well enough at the end of the day, that you will be able
to share it confidently in either a personal or professional
environment.
This is a hands-on participation workshop. Expect to work
hard and learn a lot of useful stretches completely.
This workshop will consist of approximately 50 percent
lecture/demonstration and 50 percent hands-on practice.
Everything covered in this workshop will serve as the foundation
for the Assisted Stretching workshop.
Products: A CD and
Active Stretching Handbook are available that support this workshop. Both
the CD and book contain information on AS and present Barry's sixty
minute Full Body Active Stretching for EveryBODY class. For information
go to Products.
A
Certificate of Attendance is available for the Workshop. Please
request your Certificate with your registration and payment.
Professionals may be able to use these hours towards Continuing
Education Hours. Please check with your governing board to learn the
policy.
Workshop Size: The size of this workshop is kept small to
assure you get sufficient personal attention, unlike similar workshops that
typically admit 100 or more students.
Minimum - 4 Students
Maximum - 10 Students

Learn how to safely do Assisted Active Stretches with a patient, client,
training partner, relative or friend. Assisted Stretches are stretches that
when used regularly, will often release tight muscles and other
soft tissue faster than doing self-stretches alone. Assisted Active Stretches will remove
soft tissue pain more completely and more long-lasting than many other approaches.
Assisted Active Stretches will speed the healing process of overused or
injured muscles and soft tissue.
The Assisted Stretches in this workshop are based on the
stretches that were learned in the Self-Stretching workshop last month.
This workshop will serve as a review and introduce you to an advanced,
more powerful
way of using the same stretches.
If you are already doing Bodywork, this
workshop you will help you to discover which Assisted Stretches are most effective for use in
conjunction with the work you already do. For individuals outside the
bodywork professions that might use Assisted Active Stretching, this workshop
will give you the ability to help someone else in a confident, educated,
professional manner.
This is a hands-on, interactive workshop. You will work with partners
both giving and receiving a wide variety of Assisted Stretches that
will target the major muscle groups of the entire body.
You will learn to do Assisted Stretches using the floor,
using a chair or stool and using a sturdy table, desk or massage table.
In this workshop, emphasis will be placed on instructing you in the use
of proper body mechanics to execute each stretch so that as the giver,
you do not injure yourself in the process of helping someone else.
This workshop will consist of approximately 80 percent
hands-on practice and 20 percent lecture/demonstration.
What to
Bring to the Workshop: Please bring an exercise/Yoga mat or beach
towel to define your private space in the classroom.
Wear exercise clothing that allows free movement throughout your body.
There is a small dressing room available at the Learning Center where
you can change from street clothes if you wish.
Most important, please bring an open mind, especially if Active
Stretching is new to you. I ask that you be open and receptive to new
ideas and new approaches to stretching that may seem totally foreign and
unfamiliar to you.
Please Note: This workshop is highly recommended for individuals
who are considering taking one of the STAR Tech Healing Techniques Workshops. Many
of the Assisted Stretches learned in this workshop are used in the
STAR Tech Healing workshops. Familiarity with the stretches when taking
a STAR Tech Healing workshop will greatly increase your comprehension of
the new STAR Tech material.
A
Certificate of Attendance is available for the Workshop. Please
request your Certificate with your registration and payment.
Professionals may be able to use these hours towards Continuing
Education Hours. Please check with your governing board to learn the
policy.

Active Stretching is very powerful! It is the foundation of the STAR Tech

alone in terms of the recovery and healing it stimulates in soft tissue.
Who Will Benefit From This Training:
Fitness Trainers, Exercise Instructors, Coaches, Serious Athletes,
Dancers, Bodybuilders,
Massage Therapists, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists,
Chiropractors, Body Workers,
and anyone else who is interested in learning how
to do and share what I feel is the most effective stretching that exists, will
all benefit.
This workshop is for individuals who are seriously interested in
gaining a thorough, working knowledge and understanding of Active
Stretching. If you are already familiar with AS, this workshop will
expand your knowledge and its use. If you are not already using it, you
will find that Active Stretching can be a powerful addition to your
current physical activities, and your treatment or coaching tool box.
For Therapists and Body Workers, adding Active Stretching to your
treatment options will change the way you use your body to work, and
lessen your chance of suffering from
overuse. Active Stretching can prolong your career. Teaching your
clients/patients how to use Active Stretching as part of their homework
will support and strengthen your work on them, resulting in more
satisfied clients/patients. Adding Active Stretching to your tool box
has the potential of keeping both you and the people you work with, pain
and injury-free.
As a Trainer or Coach, using and teaching Active Stretching with
your athletes/clients, will enable you to be more effective and give
them a better way to train and care for themselves. Learn why Active
Stretching should be an integral part of any training program. Your AS
knowledge will make you a better Trainer or Coach.
Athletes, including Dancers, will learn the tools to help prevent
injuries, speed recovery and healing, and ultimately prolong your active
career. What you learn in this workshop will also allow you to share

About the Workshop:
This workshop will give Trainers, Coaches, Body Workers and others,
the information they need to instruct
their
clients in the correct, safe way of doing a variety of Active Stretches.
Body Work professionals can use these stretches with clients and assign
these stretches as homework to help clients/patients continue to enhance
any body work you have already done with them. Athletes and dancers can
use the stretches for maintenance, recovery, healing and to extend your
active athletic life. Most of the workshop time will involve
self-stretching. Time at the end of the workshop will be devoted to
hands-on work doing assisted stretching that you can use with your
clients, patients, students or friends.
In the workshop you will learn how Active Stretching works
naturally, and why Active Stretching works so effectively. Learn the
physiology and body mechanics involved in Active Stretching, plus how
and why the body responds so quickly and
thoroughly to it. Learn how Active Stretching is used for both muscle
maintenance and for muscle injury recovery.
In this workshop, sufficient time will be given to each stretch in
order to give the student a complete understanding of what is being
done, how, and why. This workshop will include an anatomy review
and an explanation of the muscle(s) being targeted (relaxed and
contracted) in each stretch. Demonstrations of each stretch will include
detailed instructions for doing the stretch properly, as well as tips
for doing some advanced versions of stretches to achieve even better
results.
The workshop will include some stretches that are not in the Active
Stretching class routine because of class time limitations, and
therefore are not in the Active Stretching Class Handbook or on the
class CD.
The goal of this workshop will be for you to leave knowing not only
how to do Active Stretches that address the major muscles and muscle
groups of the body, but also to know why you are doing them, how Active
Stretching works, and how to share them with
others.
It is intended that you will know and understand Active Stretching well
enough at the end of the day, that you will be able to share it
confidently in both a personal and professional environment.
This is a hands-on participation workshop. Expect to work hard and
learn a lot of useful stretches completely.
This workshop will consist of approximately 35 percent
lecture/demonstration and 65 percent hands-on application and practice.
You will receive handouts covering the important information of the
workshop.
A Certificate of Attendance is available for the Workshop. Please
request your Certificate with your registration and payment.
Professionals may be able to use these hours towards Continuing
Education Hours. Please check with your governing board to
learn the
policy.
